EURO 4000: the best-seller

Europe's most powerful diesel-electric locomotive already sold 45 times

Power, cost-efficiency, flexibility: these are the hallmarks of Vossloh España's EURO 4000—in its element in heavy and/or fast cross-border haulage.

The EURO 4000 built by Vossloh España in Valencia, optional for passenger or goods haulage, is still Europe's most powerful diesel-electric locomotive. Its propulsion plant comprises EMD components that have already proven themselves in a multitude of applications in North America, such as the 16-cylinder two-cycle turbocharged engine developing 3,178 kW. The 123-t locomotive (axle load 20.5 t) has a maximum speed of 120 km/h; the only slightly heavier (126-t) passenger version of the EURO 4000 has a top speed of 160 km/h.
Thanks to energy-efficient electronic diesel fuel injection and a tank capacity of 7,000 l, the EURO 4000 will travel distances of up to 2,000 km without having to refuel. The use of high-strength steel has made the chassis around 25 percent lighter than comparable locomotives while allowing a very even distribution of axle loads, less track wear, and added crash resistance. An optional GSM data transmission system which relays all the vehicle's data to the maintenance shop, minimizes the risk of unscheduled downtime.

Already sold 45 times since 2006, the EURO 4000 has been engineered for pan-European, cross-border operation. It is fully ETCS compatible for future ERTMS corridors and will easily adapt to any European rail system. Already homologated for operation in Spain it is now undergoing, in some cases at a far advanced stage, homologation procedures in Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, Sweden, Norway, France, and Poland. For cross-border operations the EURO 4000 can be fitted with up to three or in some cases up to four different national safety systems.
